USS Borie and sisters

After exchanging 50 flush-deckers for bases with Britain in 1940, the US Navy had 120 flush-deckers available for operations. As of 17 October 1941, while 48 had been converted as fast minelayers (DM), fast minesweepers (DMS), seaplane tenders (AVD) and fast transports (APD), 72 retained their “DD” designation. Together with the lone remaining 1000-tonner, Allen, these were assigned as follows:
