    The Secretary of the Navy takes pleasure in commending the

UNITED STATES SHIP KILTY

for participation in the following operations

    The Consolidation of the Southern Solomon Islands — May 2 to 22, 1943; June 2 to 3, 1943;
    The New Georgia Operation — June 30, 1943; July 24, 1943;
    The Bougainville Operation — October 27, 1943; November 11 and 17, 1943;
    The Bismarck Archipelago Operation — December 26, 1943;
    The Hollandia Landing — April 21, 1944;
    The Western New Guinea Landings — May 19 and 27, 1944; July 30, 1944; September 15, 1944;
    The Leyte Landings — October 17 to 20, 1944;
    The Luzon Landings — December 15, 1944; January 11 to 13, 1945;
    The Nasugbu Landing — January 31, 1945;
    The Okinawa Operation — April 1 to 7, 1945; May 3 to 7, 1945;

as set forth in the following

    CITATION:

       “For exceptionally meritorious service against enemy Japanese aircraft, shore batteries and submarines. Operating in contact with the enemy and under attack, the U.S.S. KILTY performed her duties as a high speed transport, consistently maintaining a superior degree of efficiency in the performance of her assigned tasks. Her participation in an exceedingly long consecutive string of varied operations required great stamina and skill and subjected her gallant and courageous crew to constant hardships. Her courageous determination and effort were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”

All personnel attached to and serving on board the U.S.S. KILTY during one or more of the designated periods are hereby authorized to wear the NAVY UNIT COMMENDATION Ribbon.
