On 15 January 2004, as part of its annual symposium at Crystal City, Arlington, Virginia, the Surface Navy Association presented a Special Recognition Award to George Eisenberg for “ … capturing the faces of war and the spirit of shipboard life … in a hauntingly realistic and personally touching way. Every sailor who has seen your art is frozen in thought and memory … your ability to capture the souls of our sailors and ships … will last forever and is a legacy to our entire nation.” In the photos below: (1) George, (2) with wife Gabriella, daughter Julie and her husband Joe Janson, (3) with fellow artist-historian Dean Mosher, and (4–6) portions of the exhibit of his work at the symposium. A gallery of George’s work appear on his web site. See also his account of sinking the Chevalier from 1943. |
