Halford’s after forpedo mount with painting of Walt Disney’s “Fido,” which became the ship’s nickname. Click to view this image in more detail. Nearly 2800 images of engineering drawings and related documents for Fletcher-class ships built at Bath Iron Works have been preserved on microfilm at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), College Park, Maryland. We have scanned these at 400 dpi and saved them as TIF files, available on one DVD-ROM. NARA has an extensive collection of photographs and negatives, some in color, which may also be scanned. The Naval Historical Center, Washington Navy Yard, has a smaller collection with some overlap, and also permits scanning. Sources of photographs for purchase include Tin Can Sailors, the Naval Institute and the Floating Drydock. This section contains images from these sources and courtesy of several private collections. |
