USS Tabberer (DE-418)

Three destroyer escorts—Bronstein, England and Frost—were awarded individual Presidential Unit Citations for anti-submarine action in World War II. Samuel B. Roberts, Raymond, Dennis and John C. Butler also received Presidential Unit Citations as part of Taffy III in the Battle off Samar, 1944; Haverfield, Swenning, Willis, Janssen, Wilhoite and Francis M. Robinson received one or more Presidential Unit Citations as part of a hunter-killer task group with escort carrier Bogue (CVE 9) in the Atlantic; and Pillsbury, Pope, Chatelain and Jenks received Presidential Unit Citations as part of a hunter-killer task group with escort carrier Guadalcanal (CVE 60).
   Nine destroyer escorts—Buckley, Frederick C. Davis, Herbert C. Jones, John C. Butler, Johnnie Hutchins, Rall, Richard W. Suesens, Tabberer and Underhill—plus APD conversion Loy received individual Navy Unit Commendations during World War II. Kretchmer also received one for action three days after the war ended.
