John Kennedy Barton, was born 7 April 1853 at Philadelphia and was graduated from the Naval Academy in 1873.
   He served as Engineer-in-Chief and Chief of the Bureau of Steam Engineering.
   Retiring with the rank of Rear Admiral, 23 December 1908, he died at Philadelphia exactly 13 years later.
